オーバー・ダブの有無の扱いなど，ちょっと 'complete' とは言えないところもあるが，ライブ録音も含めて Specialty 時代をまとめて聴ける点は評価できる。

"Featuring Sam Cooke" というサブタイトルが付いているが，ジャケット写真に Sam Cooke は写っておらず，3.は Johnnie Taylor，5.は R.H. Harris，9.は Paul Foster がリードをとっている曲。

Specialty の権利が Fantasy から Concord というレーベルに移動したためか，最近出た編集盤。
初期の作品集で，全て "The Complete Specialty Recordings" に収録されていた。
◎ Soul Stirrers, The "When The Saints Go Marching In" [MCA MCAD-22099]
ネット上のジャケット写真には Sam Cooke も含まれているので気になっていたのだが，送られてきた CD には別の写真が使われていた。Chess 時代の作品集らしい。
◎ Dobie Gray "The Soulful Sound Of Dobie Gray" [SPECTRUM HMNCD 022]
この CD に収録されている "We Had It All" は，再録ものではなく，オリジナル録音だった。
◎ Aaron Neville "Gospel Roots" [EMI EGD09872]
日本盤の "Gospel Roots" とは違って CD２枚組で，収録曲が多くなっているけれども "devotion" や "believe" を持っていれば，わざわざ買う必要もなかった(^_^;)
◎ Joe Tex "This Is Gold" [DISKY HR 901949]
手持ちの CD とかなり重複しているのがわかっていても，３CDs 全60曲が \1,500 以下だったので買ってしまった。
重複していないのは６曲あった。
以下は，例によって中古ショップで購入。節約しているつもりなのだけれども，割安なのが見つかるとついつい手が出てしまう(^_^;)

そのうち，別テイクなどが収録されて音も良い CD が発売されるだろうと我慢していたのだが・・・。

２CDsの新品未開封が \1,890 だったら買うしかないでしょう。このアンソロジーには１９６６年録音の "Bon Ton Roulet" が収録されていた。

１９８９年のオーディブック「ブラック・ゴスペル入門」。

KENT から３月末の新譜。今年に入ってからタワレコへの入荷が早くなり，しかも値段も安くなっている？ 少なくともアマゾンより安かった。
サブタイトルの "Cryin' In the Streets" は，「スウィート・ソウル・ミュージック」の第１２章「夢の終わり」の冒頭に歌詞が引用されていた曲。
この辺になると AMG もほとんど役に立たないシンガーが多くなってきて，こういうのを聴いているとシングル盤のコレクターの気持ちもよくわかるのだが・・・，底無しだとわかっている泥沼に足を踏み入れるのは，恐ろしい(^_^;)
Big John Hamilton "I'm Getting It From Her" の作者は Donnie Fritts だし，Eddie Hinton らしいギターの音が聴ける曲もある。

１９９４年リリースのアルバム。13 は Japanese Extra track。
スタジオ録音としては "Cold Day in Hell" 以来，１７年ぶりの作品。
プロデュースは，Bryan Ferry のアルバムでギターを弾いていた John Porter。彼は，一時 Roxy Music でベースを弾いていたこともある。参加しているミュージシャンも Ian McLagan(Faces) や Bill Payne(Little Feat) などということで，コアなブルース・ファンには敬遠されるかもしれないが，そういうファンにも満足してもらえる内容になっていると思う。
久しぶりのスタジオ録音なのに，自作の新曲がアルバム・タイトルの１曲だけというのはちょっとさびしいが，お得意の Albert King や B.B. King のナンバーでは，ボーカルもギターも唸っている。
しかも，２曲も Sam Cooke をカバーしていて，どちらもなかなかの出来。

Otis Rush が Sam Cooke のカバーというのは意外かもしれないが，鈴木啓志説によると，"All Your Love"の「タンタ・タララララ」というリズムは，"You Send Me" の B 面だったバージョンの "Summertime" をヒントにしているということで，Otis Rushは，Sam Cookeの「隠れた愛好家」かもしれないということになっている。
昨年の来日公演では，かなり体調が悪かったそうだけれども，７０を超えているわけだし，もう復活は難しいのだろうか？

１９７４年のソロ第２作。ラストのタイトル曲 "Another Time, Another Place" 以外は，全てカバー曲。
スタンダード曲のほか，かなりカントリー色の強い選曲になっている。オリジナルから直接というよりは，Elvis Presley あたりを通しての影響かもしれない。
Donnie Fritts の歌を「下手クソ」だとけなした後で，この Bryan Ferry のボーカルが好きだと言うと，どこかから石でも飛んできそうだが・・・。
6.(What A) Wonderful World が Sam Cooke のカバー。数ある "Wonderful World" のカバーの中でも，このバージョンがいちばん好きかも・・・(^_^;)
彼は，息子を Otis と名付けているくらいで，"That's How Strong My Love Is" はじめ，ソウル・クラシックスもかなり歌っていて，渋いところでは J.Blackfoot "Taxi" を取り上げて，それをそのままアルバム・タイトルにしたりもしている。
このアルバムを紹介しようと思ったのは，"Walk a Mile in My Shoes" の作者である Joe South が，Absolutely Free で取り上げられていたから。
この曲の手持ちのカバーには，Willie Hightower (Swedish TV Documentary 見たかった(T_T)) のほかに，Syl Johnson のバージョンがある。

↑も，つかみどころの無いシンガーで，"Is It Because I'm Black?" に収録されている "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" は，歌詞にはそれほど変化は無いが，メロディーがどこかへいってしまっている。
↑の CD では，James Brown や Joe Tex のようにファンクっぽい曲の中に，"Fox Hunting On The Weekend" という Sam Cooke 調の曲も収録されていた。
